Song inspiration for the day:

Just Dropped In (to see what condition my condition was in – Kenny Rogers, 1967)

I tripped on a cloud and fell-a eight miles high
I tore my mind on a jagged sky
I just dropped in to see what condition my condition was in

Twas the night before a diversion from Route 66 and a  planned southern rim Grand Canyon hike that included a starting elevation over 7200′, an elevation descent of 1200′ within one mile, followed by what goes down must go up, switchbacks with no guardrails, red flag warnings of high winds and risk of fire, bold  suggestions that one should be an experienced hiker in high altitudes — and we thought why not us?  Neither of us slept a wink, the Hurry one wasn’t sure we could go fast enough to beat the 50mph winds and Sloth couldn’t help wondering what condition her condition was in…

As life would have it, worry is wasted energy, our condition(ing) was just fine, we did not fall off the ledge, and some things never change.  Hurry led the descent, as she does in all things bike-run-hike, and Sloth led the ascent, as she does in all things bike-run-hike.  We had our draftline of 2 perfected, and arrived at the turnaround of OOH AAH Point for more incredible views of the Grand Canyon.

The ascent to the top of the ridge left our lungs bursting, and reaching the summit, we continued our hike around the canyon rim.  The magnificent views, hard to capture via 2D  photo, left us awestruck and so appreciative that we get to experience mother nature’s finest artwork firsthand!

Thanks for traveling with us along historic Route 66 (& beyond!)– more 66 lays ahead tomorrow…
